A Hair Care Brand Born from Love
Because every curl deserves a dad who knows what he's doing.
The complete hair care kit and guide created by a white adoptive dad — for every parent learning to love and care for their child's natural curls.
Our Story
When my husband and I adopted our three sons out of foster care, we knew we were signing up for a beautiful, challenging journey. What we didn't expect was how much we'd need to learn about hair.
Three Black boys. Two white dads. Zero clue how to handle wash day. We fumbled through YouTube tutorials at midnight, bought every product on the shelf, and broke more than a few combs before we figured it out.
JUST JOSH was born from those early mornings of trial and error — from the tears (theirs and ours), the breakthroughs, and the quiet pride of finally getting it right. This isn't a professional stylist's guide. It's a dad's guide. Written with love, humor, and the hard-won wisdom of someone who's been exactly where you are.

The Free Guide
Your complete cheat sheet for curl care — no cosmetology degree required. Just a dad who cares.
The foundation of moisture retention for curly hair. This layering technique locks in hydration all day long.
L
Liquid
Start with water or a water-based leave-in. Spray evenly through damp hair, section by section.
O
Oil
Seal with a lightweight oil (coconut, jojoba, or argan). Focus on the ends where dryness hits hardest.
C
Cream
Lock it all in with a curl cream or butter. This is your moisture barrier — don't skip it.
Dad Tip: If their hair feels crunchy, you used too much product. If it's limp by noon, you didn't use enough. You'll find the sweet spot — give it a week.
Detangling is where most dads panic. Here's how to get through it without tears (from either of you).
Always detangle on wet, conditioned hair.
Never dry. Saturate with conditioner or a detangling spray first.
Work from the ends up.
Start at the tips and work your way to the roots. Going top-down creates more knots.
Section the hair.
Divide into 4-6 sections with clips. Tackle one section at a time — it's less overwhelming for everyone.
Use your fingers first, then the brush.
Gently pull apart large tangles with your fingers before using the detangling brush.
Make it fun.
Put on their favorite show, sing songs, or tell stories. Distraction is your best tool.
Wash day doesn't have to be a battle. Here's the routine that works for our family.
Wash once a week — max. Black hair needs its natural oils. Over-washing leads to dryness and breakage. If it looks dry mid-week, just refresh with water and oil.
Use a sulfate-free shampoo. Focus on the scalp, not the ends. Let the suds rinse through the length — that's enough cleansing for the strands.
Apply a generous amount of conditioner. Let it sit for 3-5 minutes (this is when you detangle). Rinse with cool water to seal the cuticle.
Never rub with a towel. Use a microfiber towel or an old t-shirt to gently squeeze out excess water. Air dry whenever possible.
Dad Tip: Set a consistent wash day (we do Sundays). The routine becomes easier when everyone knows what to expect.
What happens at night determines how the morning goes. Protect those curls while they sleep.
The gold standard. Get one that fits snugly but isn't too tight. We keep extras because they disappear under beds constantly.
For the kid who won't keep a bonnet on (we have one of those). A satin pillowcase reduces friction and preserves moisture.
Dad Tip: Let them pick their own bonnet color or pattern. When they feel ownership over it, they're more likely to keep it on.
